Thaung, noting the young man deep in thought, tapped discreetly on the glass partition separating his cubicle from Htet's. Looking up, Htet gave a slight nod as Thaung silently left the laboratory. On reaching the outer lobby, the old man quickly reached for the mobile in his coat pocket and punched in a number.

"Mr Hasewaga's private line," said a sing song voice.

"Bishamon," said Thaung, giving the code word connected to the top secret project, "Mr Pang, please."

"One moment please."

"Thaung?"

"Good morning Mr Pang, sir," simpered Thaung. "You asked me to call you, sir, if Htet or I noticed anything out of the ordinary…"

"Something's happened?" snapped Pang.

"Maybe, sir, maybe not, but Htet and I thought we had better authenticate what we've just been told. This young man, Takata, having arrived only four days ago, now informs us he's returning to Singapore, ostensibly to do some vital research on data not available here!"

"But that's ridiculous! Everything we have connected to Bishamon has been meticulously duplicated and is with you in Mindataw!"

"Not according to Mr Takata," sniggered Thaung. "Furthermore, Mr Pang, sir, Takata claims he has also spoken to you, sir—only a few moments ago—in order for you to make the necessary arrangements regarding his access to the requisite data."

"Takata claims he's just spoken to me?"

"Yes sir. In fact, Htet and I both saw him talking on his mobile about five minutes ago." Thaung gave another snigger. "But obviously not to you!"

"Obviously not," muttered Pang, "and what's more, he doesn't have direct access to me like you have and would have to go via the operator. What is more worrying, he is under the strictest instructions not to have contact with anyone while hidden away there with you two. Contact is only by courier, unless it's an emergency."

"I thought it best to let you know our concerns," simpered Thaung. "Our very grave concerns."

"You've done the correct thing, Thaung, and we at Hasewaga won't forget it," came the smooth reply. "Well done and do as Takata suggested; meanwhile, I shall await Mr Takata's so-called visit." Pang gave a sinister laugh. "Not that I'm expecting to see him, just as he won't be expecting to see me!"
